Austin Ice Storm, February, 2023

Austin, Texas, had a major ice storm on February 1-2, 2023 which left many people without electricity  for many days.

The problem was all the trees became coated with layers of ice. In many places the ice was 3/4" thick. These ice-laden trees fell on power lines which caused them to break and residents to lose power.

At its peak (February 1), more than 250,000 people lost power is this area and Austin Electric called in multiple work crews from all over Texas and neighboring states. It has taken them a long time to restore power.

We lost power at 5:55 AM on Wednesday, February 1 and regained power on Monday, February 6 at 10:20 AM. That's 5 days, 4 hours and 25 minutes without power.

During that time, we had to rely on neighbors and Sarah's church to recharge our cell phones. We also didn't get to shower for those 5 days.
