Sarah and I flew from Austin to Dallas(AA1701) where we met up with Scherre, Dad, Martha, Kristy and Megan in the DFW airport.

AA279 flight to Anchorage.  Arrived at 7:30 pm Anchorage time (3 hours behind Austin time).

Spent our first night at the Hilton Garden Inn.  Martha, Megan and Kristy stayed at the Homewood Suites which was next door.

Alaska Railroad Gold Service to Denali, arrived at about 3:45 pm.  We ate lunch on the train.

4:30 pm
Helicopter ride to a Denali glacier.  The flight lasted about 75 minutes.

Spent Saturday and Sunday night in the Grande Denali Lodge.  Scherre, Dad and I ate dinner in the hotel.  Sarah was feeling ill from the helicopter ride, so she skipped dinner.

  Ate breakfast in the Grande Denali Lodge.

Kantishna Experience Bus Tour through Denali National Park.  The bus company supplied a boxed lunch.  The tour lasted approximately 12 hours.

Ate breakfast at the Mountaineer Grill in the Denali Bluffs Hotel while we were waiting for the bus to Anchorage.

Coach bus back to Anchorage.

Ate lunch at Humpy's restaurant in the Anchorage airport while waiting for the plane to Kodiak Island.

5:35 am ERA Airlines plane to Kodiak Island.  The trip took just over an hour.

  Ate dinner at the "2nd Floor Restaurant and Sizzler", which was a great Chinese restaurant.

  Spent Monday and Tuesday night at the Kodiak Hilltop Bed and Breadfast. We rented the entire house for the four of us.  The house owners didn't allow shoes in the house.

  Ate breakfast at the B&B, where the food was supplied.

  Toured Kodiak Island in a rented car.

  Ate lunch at the "Old Powerhouse Restaurant" in Kodiak.  It is a Japanese restaurant that is owned by the same family that owns the B&B,

6:00 pm Gourmet Galley Dinner Cruise on the Sea Breeze, owned by Marion and Marty Owen.  The cruise lasted until about 9:30 pm.

Wednesday
  Ate breakfast at the B&B, where the food was supplied.

  We were originally supposed to fly out at 11:10 am, but the flight was cancelled due to fog.  So we ate lunch at Henry's Great Alaskan Restaurant.

6:00 pm We finally flew back to Anchorage on Alaska Airlines.

8:00 pm We had reservations at Seven Glaciers restaurant in the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, but we were about an hour late due to our problems getting out of Kodiak.  This was Megan's 29th birthday celebration, and probably the most expensive meal I've ever eaten.  We had to take a tram to the restaurant.

  Spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights in a rented house in Girdwood, which is about 30 miles from Anchorage.  The house is at 314 Cortina Road, Girdwood, AK 99587.  Just like the house in Kodiak, we weren't allowed to wear shoes in the house.  We originally didn't rent the whole house, but, the first night Scherre was in a less-than-desirable bedroom, so we rented the whole house for the second and third nights.

Thursday
  Scherre ate breakfast at the Java Hut.  The rest of ate some breakfast food that Martha bought.

10:00 am Float plane ride around Prince William Sound, flown by Rust's Flying Service.  The plane was delayed by about 45 minutes because of the fog, and we weren't able to land next to Columbia Glacier because of the fog, but we landed in a very nice lake.

  Ate lunch at Snow City Cafe in Anchorage.

  Sarah and I ate at Jack Sprat in Girdwood.

July 27
Friday
6:45 am We had to get up at 4:15 am in order to drive into Anchorage in time to make the train.  The train went from Anchorage to Seward.  We ate breakfast on the train.  The train ride took a little over 4 hours.

11:30 am Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise. We saw lots of wildlife including whales, dophins, sea lions, otters, and lots of birds.  We had lunch on the boat which was included all-you-can-eat salmon and prime rib.  Both the salmon and prime rib were very dry.  We also had "glacier daiquiris" made from glacier ice that was picked up on the cruise.

6:00 pm Train ride back to Anchorage, which took about about 4 hours.  Scherre and Dad ate dinner on the train, and Sarah and I skipped dinner.  We got back to the house about 11:40 pm, which made for a very long day.

July 28
Saturday
  Scherre ate breakfast at the "Bake Shop".  The rest of us ate at the house.  Martha had an early flight to San Diego, so we had Kristy and Megan with us for the rest of the trip (except to Austin).

  Ate lunch at Moose's Tooth Brewing Company.  We had some huge pizzas and bought some t-shirts.
No
  Went to downtown Anchorage and looked around.  Took an hour tour of Anchorage which was on a bus that was designed to look like a trolley.

  Toured the Alaska Aviation Museum next to Rust's Flying Service

8:30 pm Took a red-eye flight back to Dallas  The flight landed in Dallas about 5:45 am on Sunday.  Kristy and Megan's flight back to Houston was cancelled, so they eventually had to change airlines.

8:15 am AA278 flight back to Austin. We drove straight to the Goldust Kennel where we picked up Casey and then went home.
